Eating bao (buns) and other dim sum delicacies is close to the heart of Chinese culture. Interestingly, so is the Justice Bao legend. Chinese people around the world are familiar with this famous magistrate with his unmistakable dark complexion and uncompromising stance on justice. Having many monikers like Bao Zheng, Bao Hei Zi, Bao Gong and Xiren, he is best known as Bao Qingtian.
Put two traditions together and we have Bao Today or, in Chinese, Bao Jin Tian which sounds very much like Bao Qingtian.
Jin Tian or ‘Today’ is a commitment by Bao Today to offer fresh daily-baked buns and dumplings. Rest assured, you won’t be served any of yesterday’s buns here. That’s why Bao Today dim sum is loved for its freshness and softness.
Finding it irresistible to draw parallels between our dim sum and the legend’s many colourful characters, our buns and dumplings have memorable names like Bao Hei Zi, Wang Chao, Lu Ding Ji and Ma Han.
Besides their names, these delicacies are equally memorable for their taste too. Bao Today boasts one-of-its-kind offerings like the half Assorted Meat Bun (Ban ge bao) which is literally one half of a whole bun! Characteristic of Justice Bao’s dark countenance, three of our buns have dark-coloured skin as well, courtesy of black sesame seed that also makes the texture softer and tastier.
Bao Today is the brainchild of Dr Jimi Tan who is the owner of the established Fortunate Restaurant that serves both dim sum and other Chinese cuisine. With his intimate knowledge of the dim sum industry, Dr Tan certainly does justice to dim sum with Bao Today.
